People Are Devo New Zealand’s New Flag Won’t Be This Kiwi With Laser Eyes

New Zealand, bless ’em, have been in a flag-changing fervor for a while now. Their reasoning? Well, let’s be honest, their current design bears more than a passing resemblance to our own; more than that, though, they’re looking to choose something that represents a modern New Zealand more than the current Union Jack-repping design they sport now.
Just today, it was announced that a hybrid flag of the Silver Fern and the red Southern Cross would be the design taking on their current flag in March next year. ICYMI, here’s what it looks like:

That’s all well and good, but some NZers are livid the vote overlooked the actual best design – A KIWI SHOOTING LASERS FROM ITS EYES.
Would-be vexillologist (more like vexil-lol-ogist, amirite?) James Gray said the “the laser beam projects a powerful image of New Zealand”, and he’s not bloody wrong. Stacks of people across the ditch just don’t understand how this masterpiece of civic pride wasn’t chosen to contest the current flag.

How they will survive this national outrage is yet to be seen, but support for the challenger is mixed at best. Maybe, just maybe, our lil’ laser-eyed buddy can make a sudden, swooping comeback.
