‘No’ Campaigners In Sydney Ruined A Straight Wedding And Oh The Irony

It looks like the ‘No‘ campaign have moved straight on from ruining gay marriages to ruining straight ones, too.

Over the weekend about 500 people gathered outside St Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney, to protest against same-sex marriage and how a ‘Yes‘ vote would immediately turn all of the school children gay (or something).

Unfortunately, inside the cathedral was one of those straight weddings these people seem so hell bent on protecting – and the couple getting married weren’t too happy for their vows to be exchanged to the distant chants of “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, No, No, No”.

The bride herself came out and told them to shut up. “I prefer they just moved, to be honest,” she told the ABC, adding that she had “no idea” the event was going to clash with their nuptials.

Apparently, that problem was felt right across the board. ‘No’ rally organiser Phillipa Bruce said she’s expected a bigger turnout, and had a few issues advertising the event.

“Unfortunately, we had radio advertising ready to go out and that was delayed for whatever reason,” she said. “We were expecting a bigger turnout but without being able to reach through the media that’s very difficult. When your ad gets canned again and again you have to ask questions about what is happening here.”

You are getting owned, Phillipa. That’s what’s happening here.

Meanwhile, about 15,000 people marched through Sydney in support of marriage equality, and they had a much better afterparty, too.

The ABS reported that about 10.8 million Aussies had returned their surveys already, with about 5 million left to turn theirs in. If yours is sitting on the kitchen bench etc, get cracking!
