Mark Zuckerberg Pledges To Donate 99% Of Nest-Egg In Name Of His BéBé

Mazel tov to Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan, who are proud new parents.

The Facebook head-honcho and his genius Doctor wife welcomed a little daughter Max into the world last week, but only made the news public earlier today.
In a lengthy post to Facebook, Zuckerberg and Chan penned a lengthy letter to wee little Max, outlining the world they hope she grows up in – and announcing that, in her honour, they will be donating 99% of their wealth to help achieve that goal.
The money – coming from Facebook stock – is currently valued at around US$45billion, and will go to philanthropic causes on a global scale.

Priscilla and I are so happy to welcome our daughter Max into this world! For her birth, we wrote a letter to her about…

The letter pledges to help build a better world for Max, and for all future generations, by focusing on two key areas – “achieving human potential,” and “promoting equality.”

“Your mother and I don’t yet have the words to describe the hope you give us for the future. Your new life is full of promise, and we hope you will be happy and healthy so you can explore it fully. You’ve already given us a reason to reflect on the world we hope you live in.”

“Max, we love you and feel a great responsibility to leave the world a better place for you and all children. We wish you a life filled with the same love, hope and joy you give us. We can’t wait to see what you bring to this world.”

The post has already gone ballistic on social media, with names such as Melinda Gates, Shakira, Maria Shriver, Arianna Huffington, Katie Couric, and Sheryl Sandberg all writing notes of congratulations to the couple, and to Max.

The full letter is a really lovely, heartwarming little read if you feel like injecting a bit of joy into your Wednesday.
Congratulations to the Zuckerberg/Chan family!
