Lil’ Seal Pupper Injured During #SydneyStorm Released Back Into The Wild

OHMYGOD WOULD YOU LOOK AT THIS SEAL PUPPER.

This precious lil’ angel was released back into the wild today after spending a month in care at Taronga Zoo.

Nicknamed Elvis (because of his tendency to shuffle on his bed), he was picked up on South Curl Curl Beach during the Sydney storms, malnourished and exhausted.

“He’s one of the lucky ones,” said Taronga’s Senior Veterinarian Larry Vogelnest. “He was pretty feisty when he first arrived at the hospital, which was a good indicator that he’d be a suitable candidate for short term care and release.”

The 18-month-old Long-Nosed Fur Seal was given antibiotics and fluids and fed a diet of as much fresh fish as he could eat, oh yes he was.

Elvis was released back into the wild today.

“He was initially a bit hesitant to get in the water, but eventually he dived in and started swimming strongly,” said Larry. “He looked fantastic and alert in the water, so we can only hope he grows up to be a big, healthy seal.”

We should point out here that this is *not* the same seal that caused Bondi Beach inhabitants to shit themselves with cuteness, but another, different seal.

There’s been an over double the number of seal incidents this year compared to last (62 to 26), according to the Marine Mammal Rescue and Research group ORRCA, probably thanks to a very successful pupping season in 2014-15.

Swim free, lil’ seal friend.
