Kesha Submits Damning Emails From Dr. Luke Criticising Her Weight To Court

A year ago, a judge told pop singer Kesha that she could not break her contract with Sony, and therefore had to stay connected to her alleged abuser, producer Dr. Luke
Now, Kesha has asked the court to reconsider her case, with her attorney filing court papers this week stating that Kesha wants to “be free from her abuser and rebuild her physical, emotional, and mental health”.
She and her legal team have also released a bunch of emails and documents supporting their claims. Published by Page Six, the small selection from the emails show Dr. Luke berating Kesha about her weight, lyrics, and personality.
Emails between Luke and Kesha’s manager Monica Cornia back up the claim that the producer mistreated the musician – particularly when it came to her eating disorder, which was known to him at the time.
“Nobody was calling anybody out,” Dr. Luke writes to Cornia at 2:11 a.m. on June 28, 2012.
“We were having a discussion on how she can be more disciplined with her diet. there have been many times we have all witnessed her breaking her diet plan. this perticular [sic] time — it happened to be diet coke and turkey while on an all juice fast,” he complains.
Cornia then tells Luke to be more supportive because Kesha is “a human and not a machine”. He then added, “if she were a machine that would be way cool and we could do whatever we want.”
Luke claims that, “A-list songwriters and producers are reluctant to give Kesha their songs because of her weight.” (However, Kesha did manage to make an album in secret at the time, which featured a bunch of different well-known artists, so .)
In another email chain from 2012, there’s a disagreement between Luke and Cornia (who was speaking on behalf of Kesha) over the lyrics for her track, ‘Crazy Kids’
Luke wanted the lyrics to be, “You see us in the club sip sippin bub”, but Kesha preferred, “You see us in the streets we da we da freaks” – she says because she didn’t actually ever go to clubs.
According to Cornia‘s email copies, Luke‘s response was,

“I don’t give a shit what you want. If you were smart you would go in and sing it.”
Over this incident, Cornia says Kesha had attempted to settle the fight with Dr. Luke herself, but “didn’t feel comfortable talking to him”.
“He refused to come downstairs (“she wears the pants in MY house?”) so we left,” says Cornia, quoting Luke.
According to Page Six, the two parties are set to have a telephone conference with the judge next week.
