Jay Z’s Life + Times have strayed from devoting their entire being to, well, Jay Z’s life and times, and have produced a humbling documentary on some of the key players in successful micro record label Top Dawg Entertainment, providing a candid insight behind the scenes of Kendrick Lamar, Ab Soul, Jay Rock and Schoolboy Q

Roaring live footage of crowds chorusing “I wish my dick was as big as the eiffel tower so I could fuck the whole world for seventy two hours” in perfect unison breaks up the intimate footage of the artists stripping back their intangible images, their ecstatic presence on stage, to relay their beginnings, humble hometowns and their largely shared values of staying tight with those that matter: “At the end of the day, it’s about keeping your brother.” Kendrick Lamar says, “A group of guys that come from nothing.
Condensed in to a clean, tight 16 minutes, we follow the preparation of the four artists—constantly encouraging and supporting each other, humbly reminding themselves of their legacies and roots—in the lead up to playing the Budweiser Made In America Festival next weekend.
