TIME magazine’s annual gathering of the best of the best – the greatest peace keepers, thinkers, politicians, artists and icons of our time – has landed, with Kanye West, Bradley Cooper, Misty Copeland, Jorge Ramos and Ruth Bader Ginsburg each scoring one of five TIME’s 100 Most Influential People covers.
As ever, TIME’s list is divided into categories, with descriptions and praises of each figure written by an equally-public figure in the world’s eye. The “Titans” include Kanye West – as described by Elon Musk: “Kanye West would be the first person to tell you he belongs on this list”, as well as Kim Kardashian, profiled by Martha Stewart, who praises the Kardashian clan’s success thusly:
“The Kardashians are a totally modern construct. They are a blended family, of Armenian descent, with biracial pairings (Kim is married to Kanye West) and a reportedly transgender parent. They work hard, and they stick together through thick and thin.”
The “Pioneers” list includes Emma Watson, Reese Witherspoon (as profiled by an adoring Mindy Kaling), astronaut Scott Kelly, podcast royalty Sarah Koenig (as profiled by Ewan Mcgregor) and transgender activist and OITNB star, Laverne Cox.
The “Artist” category is brimming with stars – from John Oliver to Amy Schumer to Julianne Moore to Alexander Wang. Your hero Chris Pratt obviously made the list also, and is profiled by Amy Poehler, who sings his praise:
“He is a real man in a sea of ciphers, a good father and friend, and one naturally funny dude. Pratt may spend the next few years riding horses or chasing comets, but he can land a joke with a natural ease that most people spend a lifetime trying to achieve.”
And, bless, Björk is profiled by artist Marina Abramovic, who revealed an email Björk sent to her in 2010: “I’m so proud to tell you that our baby volcano is just born—it’s so beautiful!”
