Korean singer and actor Goo Hara was found dead at her home in Seoul, police say. They are investigating the cause of her death.
Police say an acquaintance found the 28-year-old dead at her home in Cheongdam-dong, in southern Seoul, at 6.09pm local time.
Police refused to provide further details.
In May, Goo was reportedly found unconscious at her home and hospitalised.
Her Japanese agency, Production Ogi, released a statement confirming her death.
“Hello. We are here to deliver the tragic and unfortunate news. Family members and friends of Goo Hara are deeply shocked and anxious at the moment,” a translated version of the statement reads, via Soompi. “Therefore, we earnestly request that you refrain from writing speculative articles and spreading rumours. In addition, we ask the media and fans to refrain from making condolence calls.”
Goo made her debut in 2008 as a member of girl group Kara. In 2016, when the group disbanded, Goo embarked on a solo career and gained popularity in both South Korea and Japan. She also appeared on a number of TV shows including It’s Okay, That’s Love and City Hunter.
Goo had an upcoming tour planned for Japan, in cities including Osaka and Tokyo.
Tributes have poured in on social media, with fans remembering Goo as “a woman full of talent with a big heart.”
