Sensibly waiting for all the fuss to die down in the wake of this year’s Triple J Hottest 100 vote, Julia Gillard has penciled in our second most significant democratic event of the year with the announcement that there will be a federal election to be held on the 14th of September.
The lengthy lead-in has been designed to allow for “cool and reasoned deliberation” rather than a last minute political scrap. Expect eight months of baby kissing, hand shaking, politicians keeping it real with their constituency and Chaser pranks.
