Jemaine Clement Is Not Working On A New Flight Of The Conchords Show For HBO

Before we begin here, before we go any further, before any false hope is raised, and contrary to the rumour that’s sweeping the web at the moment. We’ve got to post this. Straight from the horse’s mouth.

There it is. Get it? Got it? Good.

Despite the fact that every media outlet has gone ahead and, thanks to a bit of skim reading and selective quoting, arrived at the conclusion that Jemaine Clement is working with HBO on a new series of Flight of the Conchords, it’s not actually happening.
Here’s how the rumour started up. Clement was interviewed by The Guardian in the lead up to the release of his new vampire comedy film, What We Do In The Shadows. At the end of the interview, when the inevitable Conchords question appeared, Clement stated that he does miss playing gigs with Bret McKenzie as the Conchords, and that they have discussed making a movie from time to time.
The next sentence mentions the fact that Clement is currently working on a 4-part comedy series for the Conchords old home, HBO. At this point, everyone seems to have stopped reading and broken out this old badboy.
Here’s the full quote from the interview.

“HBO have commissioned a new, four-episode comedy show from Clement and Waititi, he reveals. “It was supposed to be this year but then we decided to put What We Do in the Shadows out ourselves.””

The good news is that Clement is working on a new show for HBO. It’s just not going to be a Conchords show with McKenzie. Instead, it’s in collaboration with his Shadows‘ collaborator, Taika Waititi.
But all is not lost just yet, for those forlorn Conchords fans amongst us somewhat let down by today’s brief bout of false hope. The interview also contains this magnificent juicy dangler.

Bret, James [Bobin, lead director] and me, we all want to do a musical. It would be good to do something all together … I miss playing Flight of the Conchords gigs.

A potential, theoretical, maybe might happen one day eventually Flight of the Conchords musical? Who do I speak to about giving them EVERY SINGLE CENT OF MONEY I’VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE in order to make that happen?!
