Jaymes Diaz Is So Gaffe-Prone He Now Just Refuses To Speak

Silence is golden – especially when you’re Western Sydney Liberal Party Jaymes Diaz, and every time you open your mouth, something like this happens.

Freelance radio producer and Blacktown resident Andrew Jaffrey has tweeted about an exchange he had when he approached serial media-evader Diaz anonymously yesterday afternoon to ask about his absence from a community forum held earlier in the week. Diaz, in his trademark “Journalists are like T-Rex’s, if I remain completely still they can’t see me” mode, refused to answer any questions.

The deleted The Thick Of It scene actual real-life exchange reportedly went something like this:

Andrew Jaffrey: “What were your reasons for not going to the community forum?”
James Diaz: “I’ve answered that question.”
AJ: “But I’ve only just asked you.”
JD: “I’ve answered.”
JD’s minder: “We’re not answering any more questions at this time.”
AJ: “You haven’t answered any.”
JD: “I’m here for families.”

Good save, JD. Diaz’s latest cock-up cements his place as front-runner in the Gaffe-lympics that has been the 2013 election campaign, which has also featured Liberal MP Peter Dowling sexting a picture of his wang dunked in a glass of red to his mistress, One Nation candidate Stephanie Bannister‘s geographical and historical idiocy, and Opposition Leader Tony Abbott‘s speech about where, exactly, the people of Australia can shove their education and experience.

NSW Labor state secretary Sam Dastyari yesterday tweeted a photo of Mr Diaz’s apparently empty office, asking #Where’sJaymesDiaz?” Given the absurdity of not only Diaz’s interactions with the media, but with the whole campaign circus from all sides thus far, it’s entirely plausible that he’s hiding in the broom cupboard until the whole thing is over.
