“Multiple Fatalities” Reported After Shooting At Florida eSports Tournament

Multiple fatalities have been reported after a gunman opened fire on a video game tournament in Jacksonville Landing, Florida.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reports several people were killed in the incident at the GLHF Game Bar, including the suspected shooter. They announced “many” people had been transported to hospital, but did not provide further details.

Police have advised people to stay away from the area. Authorities are expected to face the media shortly.

Video posted on social media appears to show two gamers competing in the Madden 19 NFL video game tournament. A red laser dot can be seen on one of the player’s chests before the camera footage cuts out. Numerous gunshots then ring out in the background.

Speaking to CNN, eyewitness Ryan Aleman said “As I was going in the restroom, I stayed in there, and I just heard – there was just so many gunshots, at least 20 of them at the most.”

ESports team CompLexity confirmed its player Drini Gjoka was one of several players injured at the time of the incident. He confirmed he sustained a minor injury during the shooting.

In a statement, CompLexity founder Jason Lake said Gjoka “is going to be fine” and is currently speaking with authorities.
