Kiwis Are Mistaking Jacinda Ardern’s ‘Vogue’ Shoot For A Lush Movie Still

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is a troubled detective, investigating a murder at a secluded island parish.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is the Thirteenth Doctor, and is preparing to do battle with the Daleks.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has been featured in a new Vogue piece, and readers are floored by the compelling portrait accompanying the article.

Well, only the last of those statements is true. But we’d probably believe the first two if you told us with a straight face.

Ardern had a chat with the fashion powerhouse for its March 2018 edition, detailing her working class background, her ascendancy through the ranks of the Kiwi Labour Party, and her record-setting prime ministership – the 37-year-old is currently the youngest woman to lead a nation as prime minister.

The piece, which labelled the left-leaning Ardern “the Anti-Trump”, also delved into the jarring normalcy of her life with partner Clarke Gayford. They still live in the ‘burbs. Schoolkids say g’day as they pass her on the street. The couple even maintain an empty food bowl for their famous cat Paddles, who was run over last year.

It’s a slick read which showcases the Kiwi leader to the world, but it’s the article’s portrait that has punters rapt.

Shot by Derek Henderson at Hooker Farm at Bethell’s Beach, the image shows Ardern, adorned in the work of Kiwi designers, standing on a windswept coastline. Despite looming cloud cover and a windchill you can feel through the screen, she appears to glow.

Gayford likes it.

So too do proud New Zealanders abroad, contemplating their pride for the homeland.

Others have drawn comparisons to that rich vein of prestige dramas like The Top Of The Lake or Broadchurch, and TBH, we see it.

And at least one punter has likened the image to a Doctor Who promo, mistaking Ardern for Jodie Whittaker (who was on Broadchurch, thank you very much).
