It feels like we don’t get a lot of Yeti news these days. I’m not crazy — I don’t expect to hear different Yeti-related news items each and every day. I just feel like, you know, once a month or so there should be a further development in the world of the mountain cryptid known as the Yeti. For this reason, I am absolutely thrilled to share with you this tweet from the public information office of the Indian Army:
For the first time, an #IndianArmy Moutaineering Expedition Team has sited Mysterious Footprints of mythical beast ‘Yeti’ measuring 32×15 inches close to Makalu Base Camp on 09 April 2019. This elusive snowman has only been sighted at Makalu-Barun National Park in the past. pic.twitter.com/AMD4MYIgV7

Yes, you read that correctly, that is the Indian Army claiming to have laid eyes on the tracks of the infamous Abominable Snowman earlier this month.

Speaking to The Times of India, a spokesperson said that they initially held on to the photos, but then decided to release them after they decided that the photos of the footprints matched existing theories about the creature: “So, we thought it prudent (to go public) to excite scientific temper and rekindle the interest.”
The spokesperson said that physical evidence of the creature had been “photographed and handed over to subject matter experts” so that it could be studied scientifically.
DNA tests on supposed ‘Yeti’ hair samples conducted at Oxford University in 2013 matched one of the samples to an ancient species of polar bear.
