Game Of Thrones Will Be The First TV Series To Be Shown In IMAX

Say what you will about them, but the gang at HBO are an industrious sort. They know you’ve all be pirating Game of Thrones at a fairly swift rate. And, whilst they’re not too fussed about that, they’ve still got a bottom line to worry about.

So how do you get dat cash without going after every Tom, Dick and Harry Lloyd with an internet connection and a bit torrent client? You get creative.
The cable giant let slip that the final two episodes of the show’s fourth season – The Watchers on the Wall, and The Children – will be remastered and screened in IMAX theatres in the US for a week beginning on January 23rd, marking the first time that a TV show has been screened in the format.
Not to be outdone there, the screenings will also be accompanied by an exclusive trailer for the upcoming fifth season, which is expected to begin airing in April.
So sayeth Pamela Levine, chief marketing executive for HBO,

The cinematic brilliance and grand scope of the series is perfect for the IMAX format. We are always looking to provide fans with new and exciting ways to experience the show and viewing two key episodes, along with the new trailer, on such an impressive platform makes for a great event.

Though like just about all cool things, there’s no word on whether or not the remastered episodes will make their way to IMAX screens in Australia. Partly because Foxtel has the exclusive local screening rights covered up tighter than the lid on a pickle jar. And partly because, as a nation, we simply cannot have nice things.
Still, if you happen to be swinging through the good ole’ U-S-of-A this month and feel like watching the Battle of Castle Black on a giant screen with shit-your-pants loud audio, then boy are you ever in luck!
