First Of 12k Syrian Refugees Land In Perth, Send Thank You Note To ‘Straya

The first Syrian refugees, a family of five from Homs, has arrived in Australia safe and well.
Social Services Minister Christian Porter made a statement after the family arrived which included a thank you letter from the family’s father, which is more than likely to make your heart grow about ten sizes bigger. Legit:
“We would just like to thank everybody for giving us a chance at happiness.

“I’d like to provide a good education for my children.

“From what I’ve seen just from the Australian embassy in Jordan, Australians are very fair and very kind, and I’m sure that I’ll find the same treatment here as well.

“My most important ambitions are to educate my kids well, to find safety, to get a job, and live in peace.”
The family have settled in to Perth, and have been offered a range of support to help them become comfortable in their new environment. According to the ABC, the family are being settled as humanitarian refugees, so they’re also able to avoid the normal process for entering the welfare system.
WA Premier Colin Barnett said the family was being well looked after, and all of the settled refugees would get the support they needed.
“I think the vast majority of West Australians will make these Syrian refugees welcome when main group comes, probably before Christmas!”
AWWWWW. MAKE ‘EM FEEL WELCOME, WA! <3
