Facebook Buys Instagram For One Billion Dollars

In what will be a riveting subplot for The Social Network 2: Get Richer Or Die Trying, Facebook have acquired hipster friendly photo sharing service, Instagram, for one billion dollars in cash and stock. Mark Zuckerberg announced the acquisition, the company’s largest to date, earlier today on his Facebook timeline and assured the app’s 30 million plus users (and NINE EMPLOYEES!!!) that it would continue to work independently of Facebook (ergo on other websites) as “our goal is to help spread this app and brand to even more people”. Yes, even the people who use it with other social networking tools that don’t know how cool one billion dollars is or have a single major motion picture about their founding. Thanks Zucks, everyone has the right to create art by pointing at what they see and pressing a few buttons on their smartphone.

“For years, we’ve focused on building the best experience for sharing photos with your friends and family. Now, we’ll be able to work even more closely with the Instagram team to also offer the best experiences for sharing beautiful mobile photos with people based on your interests,” Zuckerberg wrote. “We believe these are different experiences that complement each other. But in order to do this well, we need to be mindful about keeping and building on Instagram’s strengths and features rather than just trying to integrate everything into Facebook. That’s why we’re committed to building and growing Instagram independently. Millions of people around the world love the Instagram app and the brand associated with it, and our goal is to help spread this app and brand to even more people.”

Looks like someone paid attention to the movie.
