A hostage situation is unfolding in the Melbourne suburb of Brighton, where a man’s body was found in an apartment building foyer. He had apparently been shot.
Victoria Police are on the scene and have been moving residents away from the apartment block, where there’s believed to have been an explosion at around 4pm.
A woman is reportedly being held hostage inside the building, according to the Police:
“It’s believed he has a woman inside with him who he won’t allow to leave. Victoria Police specialist units are currently on scene. Roads are closed in the vicinity and we urge the community to avoid the area.”
Sky News reporter Ahron Young was doing a live cross when he heard “severe gunfire” coming from the scene.
