A hopeless romantic and also equally hopeless holiday planner has been taken to hospital for exhaustion in Changsha, China after sticking around in the airport for 10 days after surprising his internet girlfriend with a visit.
The 41-year-old Alexander Pieter Cirk had sent the 26-year-old Zhang a photo of his flight information, which she took to be a joke:
“We had advanced our romantic relationship but later he seemed a little callous toward me.“One day he sent me a photo of air tickets abruptly and I thought it was a joke.“He didn’t contact me later.”
Mystifyingly, he either didn’t try or was unable to contact her when she arrived, opting to kick it in the airport for almost two weeks and looking a bit worse for wear for it.

Local news picked up the story and managed to get in contact with her, but in a strange coincidence she too was in hospital, undergoing plastic surgery in another city.
Cirk is due to head back to the Netherlands when he gets released from hospital, but Zhang says she is keen to continue the romance when she’s released from hospital.
Isn’t love grand.
