Decky Snaps Insane Pic Of Manly Ferry Being Hit By Monster Waves Over W/E

We don’t know about you, but the first mental images we conjure of Sydney Harbour are pretty idyllic. You know, sun dancing on gentle waves under the bridge, the Opera House gleaming in the rays, and half a billion tourists trying to capture it all.

That’s what makes the photos of Manly ferry worker Haig Gilchrist so compelling – they sometimes show the exact opposite of that. And they’re almost enough to make you want to swear off the ocean for bloody life.

On Saturday, choppy conditions on the voyage may not have been ideal for passengers, but they did enable Gilchrist – a very solid photographer in his own right – to snap this insane image:

The image has since received hundreds of shares on social media, presumably by regular commuters who just about lost their lunch glancing at that horrific swell. It was brought about by the low-pressure system which dumped heavy rain along the coast, and it was enough to get Gilchrist himself commenting.

For those who appreciate the photography but perhaps not the tumultuous subject matter, Gilchrist has plenty more content to keep you enthused / capable of stepping onboard another ferry:
