In case you missed it, Victorian Premier Dan Andrews called an emergency press conference at 10.30pm on Wednesday night to announce new restrictions after a hotel quarantine worker tested positive to COVID-19.
For many Victorians, the idea of a 10.30pm emergency presser was enough to have us all reaching for a bottle of wine to calm our nerves about a potential third (fourth? I’ve lost count) wave of the virus. And apparently, that’s all that was on ABC host Bev O’Connor’s mind at 10.30pm last night when she was preparing to cross over to Dan Murphy.
“We’ll be crossing to a press conference with Dan Murphy – uh, Dan Andrews, soon,” she said before instantly correcting herself.

Now, as a former nights journalist myself, I have to pour one out for Bev here because the gig is tough. Having to know what’s going on when it’s late at night and you’re tired is rough.
And let’s be real, both Andrews and Murphy are fans of getting on the beers, so it’s an easy slip up to make.
Obviously, Dan Murphy started trending worldwide instantly, which is a pretty fair indication of the sort of stuff that entertains our small minds after a year of COVID.
Will I ever live this down, with apologies to @DanielAndrewsMP https://t.co/jHwDAADUAV

And much like the years in Smash Mouth’s All Star, the memes started coming and they didn’t stop coming.

To be fair, Bev did an absolutely stellar job at encapsulating how we all felt going into a 10.30pm press conference.

Crossing to Dan Murphy’s for a late-night presser is the exact energy we’re taking with us in 2021.

The whole ordeal might’ve won Dan Murphy a couple of votes at the next election. I mean, Dan Murphy would never let the Australian Open go ahead in the midst of a pandemic.
All I’m saying is that Dan Murphy would never have let the Australian Open go ahead

Sorry, Premier Dan Murphy will not be taking further questions at this time
Is Dan Murphy going to be taking questions?
