In some real peak 2020 energy, the ‘Get On The Beers’ remix has made it into the hottest 100 countdown at #12. Fuck yes!
The brains behind this epic remix are YouTubers Mashd N Kutcher, who have also made two other versions since the original went viral.
The best part was that Vic Premier Dan Andrews himself did the intro for the track and it was simply ICONIC.
This track is national anthem material, second to ‘In the Summertime’ by Thirsty Merc, but that’s another story. The song has been so popular with Aussies that it even cracked #2 on the iTunes charts (ahead of David Guetta and Sia), it also clocked 1.4 million streams on Spotify.
If 2020 feels like an utter blur and you reckon the remix simply appeared out of nowhere, I feel you. But the OG track actually appeared around April last year, when Dan Andrews famously said that we wouldn’t be able to get on the beers.
“You won’t be able to go to the pub, because the pub is shut. That doesn’t mean you can have all your mates around to home, and get on the beers. That’s not appropriate. It’s not essential, it’s not needed and all it will do is spread the virus,” Dan said.
Mashd N Kutcher had other plans for the Premier though and created a remix that encourages people to GET. ON. THE. BEERS. And indeed, a meme was born.
Even Dan himself got in on the joke, and when a reporter asked if Victorians could finally get on the beers he said: he’d be reaching for something a little higher on the shelf.
Honestly, we’ve been through so much Victorians and I think that this is the perfect way to celebrate how hard we’ve slogged it.
