In an unsurprising but still pretty disappointing development, Collingwood Football Club have simultaneously roundly condemned violent language towards women while also fully accepting Eddie McGuire‘s apology.
Collingwood released a statement saying they’re still 100% behind McGuire as club president:
“The board accepted Eddie McGuire’s unreserved apology for inappropriate on-air comments he made last week. It also expressed its complete and ongoing support for his position as president.“The board and the club take the matters raised by these comments seriously.”
Obviously not seriously enough to in any way punish him for it though, huh.
McGuire has been big time dragged in the press for comments he made that essentially boiled down to joking about paying people to drown AFL writer Caroline Wilson.
McGuire’s initial apologies were piss-weak as hell but he changed his tune as soon as $3 million sponsor Holden expressed their displeasure with his comments.
What a dickhead.
