Bystanders Rescue Woman From Attempted Rape Near Jill Meagher Murder Site

WARNING: This post discusses sexual assault.

Everything about this is too fucked and scary for words.

A woman in Melbourne on Sunday night was saved from an alleged attempted sexual assault by pure chance, because a dude happened to be riding along the Upfield cycle path at the right time and heard her screaming.
He told Fairfax that he initially thought it was a couple having an argument, but still decided to stop and see if she was okay just in case.
She then screamed that the man was trying to rape her, and the alleged attacker bolted. The dude pursued on his bike and was quickly joined by two other complete strangers, who helped him catch up with the guy a few streets away.
The dude says that the alleged attacker turned and punched him, knocking him off his bike, before the three of them wrestled the guy to the ground.

“We all tackled him to the ground and he was so strong, it took three [of us] to hold him down,” he said. “This guy was ranting and raving. This guy was not with it.”

The initial attack occurred near Anstey train station, a mere 300m away from where Jill Meagher was raped and murdered in 2012.

The alleged attacker, a 20-year-old man from Coburg, was arrested and charged with intent to commit a sexual offence, sexual assault and unlawful assault. He is expected to appear in court today.
