Bronwyn Bishop is a name synonymous with cheeky chopper rides for the vast majority of us, but for the residents of her electorate in McKellar, she’s been an unwavering presence for the last 22 years straight. That’s not a tally she hoped to end at 22.
Still, after that whole kerfuffle of stepping down from her role as Speaker, being tied with the political anchor Tony Abbott, and generally being bad-mouthed by anyone who thinks needless helicopter rides are a bit overblown, Bishop has officially been dumped from Liberal preselection.
96 of her colleagues bunkered down for hours to decide the 73-year old should give up the chance to contest the seat again, in favour of former staffer Jason Falinski. Here’s one interpretation of the scene:
