Book That US Trip, ‘Cause Aussies Are Getting 30-Year Low Flight Prices

Usually, you’d want the terms “perfect storm” and “international flights” well away from each other, but cop this:

A perfect storm of factors, including low oil prices, decreasing consumer confidence, and a surge in competition, has driven the cost of international flights from Australia to 30-year lows.

Truly.

According to Fairfax, current deals including American Airlines‘ $860 Sydney – New York return fare are dwarfed by last year’s prices. Similarly, 2015’s cheapest Sydney – London return trip cost $1349, 20% higher than some offers today.

Low budget airlines’ continual dominance has a bit to do with it, but the bulk of the savings come from the price of fuel, which has absolutely tanked over the past 18 months. In the same time, average wages have increased – marginally, but still, they’ve increased.

That means your international jaunts are currently far less pricey than usual.

Flight Centre chief Graham Turner told the Sydney Morning Herald he had never seen flights cost this little before. He also said he once predicted they wouldn’t fall any further, but now, he’s waiting to be proven wrong.

All of this basically means Kristen Wiig’s airborne plea has been heard – and answered.
