Blogger Whose Page Hosted Blackface Pic Cops Death Threats, Called “Cunt”

The blogger whose Facebook page hosted the photo at the centre of the Book Week blackface photo controversy has posted an emotional response to the events of the past few days, alleging that she has received death threats, and that the family of the woman who initially posted the photo have contacted her repeatedly, calling her a “cunt”.

Constance Hall posted the following status, apologising to fans she offended with her comments in the media after the controversy, explaining that she had been hounded for comment and wasn’t sure quite how to respond:
Hall is a popular mummy blogger who has built a very large community on her personal page. This was the context in which the original wall post was made, in which a mother bragged about painting her son brown so he could dress up as his hero, West Coast Eagles fan Nic Naitinui.
Obviously, as has been said a thousand times, blackface is not on. It’s insanely easy to just listen to the numerous people of colour who say it’s a shitty thing to do that causes discomfort and not do it. By this point, at the very least, you’re probably going to get rekt online if you do decide to do it. If you weigh up the pros and cons of dressing in blackface, it’s a pretty simple value equation.
But regardless of what side of the debate you’re on, it’s pointless to vilify and abuse people. There’s no reason for anyone to abuse the woman who made the original post, and there’s no reason to abuse Hall for her response. Death threats: not great.
