Big Smiles: A ‘Men In Black’ Spin-Off Is Crash Landing In Cinemas In 2019

Of all the movies starring Will Smith that had a theme song performed by Will Smith that played over the credits, ‘Men In Black‘ was definitely not the worst of them (‘Wild Wild West‘ was the worst of them, objectively). Spawning two sequels and an animated TV series that was actually kinda dope, the franchise is gearing up to receive a new instalment in the form of a spin-off, Deadline is reporting.

Although there were previous plans for a new ‘Men In Black‘ movie that was either going to be a reboot or a crossover with the ‘21 Jump Street‘ universe (what a world), it appears that this will be neither, instead tackling a set of different characters who also happen to exist in the universe established by the previous films. Unfortunately, this means no Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones, the former of which has not visibly aged at all since the first movie was released and the latter looking like he has witnessed a thousand years of human sorrow under a scorching desert sun.

According to Deadline, the as-yet-untitled movie will be produced by Laurie MacDonald and Walter F. Parkes, with Steven Spielberg executive producing. The screenplay has been written by duo Matt Holloway and Art Marcum, who you might know from such cinematic classics as ‘Iron Man‘, ‘Punisher: War Zone‘, and ‘Transformers: The Last Knight‘. My prediction is there will be at least one explosion. Just a hunch I have.

There’s no indication who will be in it or what it will be about, but I would tentatively propose that, in addition to the explosions, there will likely be some aliens, some wisecracks, and some monochromatically dressed men and women.

The film may not have a name yet, but its release date is pencilled in for May 17, 2019, so, uh, keep it free, I guess.
