Bali Nine Pair To Be Transferred To Execution Island This Afternoon

Bali Nine pair Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran will be transported to Nusakambangan Island today, to face their executions.
Prosecutor Momock Bambang Samiarso has told media that the flight to the island will occur today at midday Bali time, which is 3pm Sydney time.
Per reports in The Guardian, Chan and Sukumaran’s barrister Julian McMahon was visiting the pair in prison when the news was announced.
He has expressed dismay, saying that executing the pair before their appeals are heard could “jeopardise Indonesia’s reputation as a law-respecting democracy.”
Fairfax report that police and military have arrived at Kerobokan prison, where the pair are being held, to begin the transfer process to Denpasar airport.
Streets have reportedly been blocked off, and there are crowd control police carrying riot shields, as well as a water cannon, in case of potential unrest from protesters.
As of this morning, Tony Abbott remains hopeful for the pair, saying: “Even at the 11th hour, I hope that there might be a change of heart in Indonesia and these executions might be stopped.”
He has continued to petition the Indonesian government, saying that the executions would be against their “best interests” and values.
