Aussies Haven’t Trusted Pollies Less Since ’93, Which Is Just *Great*

Tonight, Sarah Ferguson and the gang working on 4 Corners delivered what could be the most in-depth, nuanced look at both Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Opposition Leader Bill Shorten in this election cycle.

She pressed each leader on their religious beliefs. Their reactions to the news detainees in Australia’s offshore detention system had set themselves on fire. Hell, even whether they trusted the other candidate.

In short, the seasoned journo managed to extract personality and, so help us God, authenticity from the Liberal and Labour figureheads, five days from the Federal Election.

It might just be too little too late for the pair though, ’cause new research shows Aussies haven’t trusted pollies less in twenty years
Experts at the University of Canberra Institute for Governance and Public Analysis said the “blood sports” of recent leadership knifings have acted as a major bloody turnoff for voters.

Understandable, really. Professor Mark Evans said we’re a politically-inclined lot who actually give a shit about who runs our country and how they do it, but we’re “not interested in the type of politics that are on offer in Canberra.

A stunning 15% of young voters reported having zero trust in politicians; that figure grew to nearly 25% for voters older than 50, which shows it ain’t just the young guns who’ve been left spinning by the past five years of hatchet jobs.

Indigenous Australians are also just as disaffected with the political system.
The research also demonstrated Australians haven’t been less affiliated with political parties since the 60’s, which Evans said could contribute to the growing pool of “floating voters.” Read: not an ideal sitch for any of the main players come July 2.
Nary has there ever time when this hot take on politics seemed so accurate:
