NSW is copping an absolute belting from Mother Nature right now. There’s flooding in Newcastle, flooding in the Hunter Valley, and Sydneysiders have resorted to dragging out their extra-special wet-weather gear.
It wouldn’t rain this much in an English summer, I grumbled to myself, digging out my Glastonbury mac #sydneyrain

An entire month’s worth of rain has fallen in Sydney in the space of 48 hours, with widespread rainfalls of 80ml being recorded across the city, and up to 150ml in parts of the North Shore and Hills District; in laymen’s terms, it’s really fucking wet.
The majority of these people were trying to drive through flood waters, said NSW State Emergency Service deputy commissioner Greg Newton. “We’re also out and about looking for people, looking in areas where people may be at risk, such as low-lying camp grounds.”
As of 7:30am this morning, Newcastle Airport is closed due to flooding on the runway.
Further rainfalls of 50 to 100 mm are expected at some parts of the Mid North Coast and Hunter districts (including the Central Coast), said the Bureau of Meteorology in a severe weather warning issued this morning, with damaging winds of up to 90km/h are expected along the coastal fringe.
