A Huge Fur Seal Has Been Caught After Flopping Around Launceston For A Day

Everyone knows that seals are the dogs of the sea. But sometimes, they like to explore the land, too. Today, one such seal decided to leave his watery home and flop around for a day in Newstead, Launceston, leaving a (minor) trail of destruction in his wake.

The Tasmanian police named him Mr Lou-Seal. I call him my hero.

Despite having police and Parks and Wildlife officers hot on his slippery trail, Lou-Seal (who is a giant Fur Seal) didn’t give up on his adventure. He jumped on cars (breaking a windscreen in the process) and stood defiantly in a field.

Unfortunately, Lou-Seal’s land outing was short-lived, which, let’s face it, is probably for the best. Parks and Wildlife officers tranquilised him before 11am, and will return him to the sea once he’s checked for any medical issues.

Lou-Seal may have been a clumsy bloke on land, but his intrepid spirit is an inspiration to us all. Plus, we reckon Lou might have something to say to his captors if they ever decide to visit his home. Just sayin’.
