Your Mates At Double J Just Listed The 50 Most Overlooked ’90s Tunes

When the subject of the best ’90s tunes comes up, people tend to skip straight to the likes of Nirvana and TLC, and with good reason, because both ‘Waterfalls‘ and ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit‘ are undisputed bloody bangers.
But what about the great ’90s tracks that fell through the cracks, that never show up on best-of lists, never come on at parties, and would seem to exist only in the liner notes of dated Hottest 100 compilations?
Your mates at Double J had a serious think about the tracks from that era that don’t get enough love anymore, and after taking a vote, they came up with a list of the 50 most overlooked.
They’re counting the results down from 1pm today, but they posted the entire list on their website ahead of time for you to take a look. It must be said, they’ve really come up with a weird, wonderful and diverse collection of musical goodness.
Coming in at #39 is Cibo Matto‘s iconic 1996 track ‘Sugar Water‘, whose beautifully-twisted Michel Gondry-directed video I’m still trying to wrap my head around:
Then at #20, we have ‘Hobo Humpin’ Slobo Babe‘ from Swedish indie rock band Whale, who completely fell off the face of the earth in 1999 after two albums’ worth of this amazingly bizarre shit:
There are plenty of beloved Aussie bands on the list too, including Not From There, Codrazine, Screamfeeder, Augie March, The Paradise Hotel, DeadstarRebecca’s Empire and Pollyanna.
You can check out the entire thing below, and listen to the countdown on Double J from 1pm:
