Double J Is Gonna Wheel Out The Entire 1997 Hottest 100 Next Weekend

So the January long weekend is barrelling its way towards us, and with it comes the January 27th broadcast of this year’s Triple J Hottest 100. Not to be outdone, however, sister station Double J has announced their own celebrations for the weekend, and they’re rolling the clock back a full 20 years.

Last year the station went full back to the future and dragged the entire 1996 Hottest 100 countdown out for another airing, and because one good, banger-filled turn deserves another, they’re backing it up again this year.

Earlier today, the station announced that they’ll be continuing the new tradition by broadcasting the entire 1997 Hottest 100 countdown on Sunday, January 28th.

Caz Tran is manning the decks to take you all through the absolute belter of a list, which will be interspersed with archival interviews, fresh talks with some of the artists that made the cut, and a smattering of other peak-90s goodness.

Those of you with long enough memories will know that 1997 was the year The Whitlams took out the top spot with No Aphrodisiac, an instant classic of Australian music.

We’ve run our eyes over the list and there’s some absolute crackers in there. We’re talking tracks from the likes of Blink 182The VerveThird Eye BlindSomething For KateCustard, and The Chemical Brothers.

The list is (quite obviously) publicly available if you want to go give it a red hot look. But there’s definitely value to be had in coming in to the broadcast reasonably fresh and letting the cold kiss of nostalgia hit you right in the business every time another certified 90s banger kicks in.

The 1997 Hottest 100 will be played, in full, from midday on Sunday, January 28th on Double J.

Bust out the Juice hoodie and polish up the wallet chain. This is gonna be a ride.
