Watch The Spice Girls’ Closing Ceremony Performance

Winston Churchill, Medieval themed Annie Lennox, fashionably bored Kate Moss and immense papier mache Voldemort were referenced among the many moments of British history pinpointed in the bombastic London Olympics Closing Ceremony. But none achieved that feeling of true nostalgia (where affection and horror dovetail uncomfortably, occasionally leading to diarrhea) quite like the feverishly anticipated performance by The Spice Girls.

Victoria, Geri, Emma, Mel B and Mel C were delivered to centre stage courtesy of a fleet of London’s black cabs from which emerged the different-flavored Spices. Mel B was suited in a tremendous, near-offensive onesie, and Victoria Beckham wore custom Giles Deacon. Say what you will about this bunch, they were pretty fucking fantastic up there.

UPDATE: The IOC shut down the video above so here’s alternative footage with intrusive commentary in a LOTE. Sorry.

The same cannot be said for Russel Brand who someone out of their mind allowed to perform a Beatles song while dressed as a contemporary magician or the villain from a whacky British panto. It was alarming.

Kate Bush performed an updated version of “Running Up That Hill” called “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) 2012 REMIX” that you can now download at www.katebush.com
