Mel B Says She Was Fibbing When She ‘Confirmed’ That Aussie Spice Girls Tour

Spice Girl mainstay Mel B has revealed she was bluffing when she ‘confirmed’ the group will tour Australia in 2020, telling 2DayFM she was just talking a big game on Saturday at London’s Wembley Stadium.

To be clear: the Aussie tour, which we sceptically reported on yesterday, is still a figment of her imagination.

Speaking on Breakfast with Grant, Ed & Ash this morning, Scary Spice herself said “my thing is, and I have a bee in my bonnet about it, is that we need to come to Australia first. Out the gate. We’ve done London, and now we need to come to Australia.

“So I announced it on stage, yes, without everyone else signing off 100 percent. I figured that if I put it out there, then maybe it’s going to happen, because I’ve been putting it out there for seven years.”

The singer said she has been barracking behind the scenes for Australian shows since January, but the other members “are not on board fully, yet, pencilled in.

“But I will make sure it actually does happen.”

The news will come as a disappointment to the legions of Spice Girls fans across Australia, although it is not a total surprise. In the years since the Spice Girls’ first disintegration, fans have reacted to reunion speculation with guarded optimism.

“I’m not going to guarantee, but yes, I will guarantee, February next year,” Mel B said in closing.

“The girls are going to hate me right now.”
