WATCH: Ta-ku & Wafia Get Soulfully 2004 To Cover JoJo For ‘Like A Version’

Ahhh, 2004. A simpler time for everyone, to be sure.

Among the many hits of the year (‘Hey Ya!‘? ‘Confessions Part II‘? ‘Tipsy‘? ‘Milkshake‘? ‘Toxic‘? ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot‘? Come on, it was a hot year) the song that hits the hardest and resonates the most to this very day is JoJo‘s triumphant anthem of independence and self-affirmation ‘Leave (Get Out)‘. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.
Silken throated crooners Ta-ku and Wafia stopped by the ye olde Triple J studios earlier this morning to lay down what’s possibly the smoothest rendition of the mega-hit ever committed to tape.
There’s been some massive turns on ‘Like a Version‘ this year, but this has gotta be up there with the absolute cream.
It’s a soulful, dreamy, take that even JoJo herself (who is somehow only 25 years old, for pete’s sake) would approve of.

Now if we can just get someone in to cover the one-two punch of Eamon & Frankee‘s call/response songs ‘Fuck It (I Don’t Want You Back)‘/’Fuck You Right Back‘ we’ll really be cooking with some 2004 gas.
