WATCH: Lorde Owns Brit Awards With Bowie Tribute Ft. His Actual Tour Band


Lorde has blown everyone away with a surprise tribute to the late / great David Bowie at the Brit Awards 2016, bringing the house down with a soulful rendition of ‘Life On Mars’ alongside The Starman‘s touring band.

It capped off a moving tribute segment to Bowie, which opened with speeches by his close mates and musical legends Annie Lennox and Gary Oldman – they jointly announced a posthumous Brit Icon Award to honour his “transcendent talent”. 
After the speeches and just before Lorde, Bowie’s most recent touring band took the stage to perform a medley of hits incl. ‘Space Oddity’ and ‘Under Pressure’ behind an empty microphone *shivers*.
Then out she walked, giving a less-flashy but arguably more emotional performance than Lady Gaga‘s spectacular at the Grammys earlier in the month. 
She copped a standing ovation, and was moved to tears by the entire experience.

Lorde has been a lifelong fan of Bowie’s, and recounted her total disbelief at being given his seal of approval during a brief meeting in 2013.
