Forget about the “Express Yourself” comparisons for a moment and feast your eyes on the video for Lady Gaga‘s single “Born This Way”.
Fashion filmmaker and SHOWstudio director Nick Knight directed the clip which Gaga introduces as “the manifesto of Mother Monster”. The opening uses 1970s inspired kaleidoscope-like imagery featuring a vaginal/uterine birth sequence reminiscent of Barbarella meets Matthew Barney’s The Cremaster Cycle. Once the beat kicks in it’s more your classic pop music video fare: choreographed dancemoves performed by scantily clad dance troupe.
“Born This Way” is a club banger with a PRO individuality, self-acceptance message that’s sure to be one of the anthems of Mardi Gras 2011. But don’t take my word for it – Elton John himself has called this track the “gayest song” he’s ever heard.
