Watch: Julia Gillard On Gay Marriage & Gaga

While we have consciously steered away from delving into the recesses of the pending election (mostly due to fear of being uncovered as political retards) there’s just no escaping its gravitational pull. Julia Gillard’s major pitch in the last week has been about being ‘real’ probably to appeal to rap fans. Clare Bowditch interviewed Julia Gillard for myspace on Tuesday in another bid to reveal more of the real side of Australia’s first female Prime Minister.

Watch the full interview below – a pretty interesting one at that – where the PM discusses the environment, same-sex marriage and Lady Gaga amongst other things…

Myspace also got Julia and opposition leader Tony Abbott to compile a playlist of their favourite songs; so for any swinging voters out there you can help make your decision based on their taste in music – just as we do with husbands and wives.

In other random news where music-meets-politics, Nick Cave was voted the musician Australians would most like to see as Prime Minister (based on a Myspace poll), beating out Powderfinger’s beloved everyman Bernard Fanning and earthy message-wielding John Butler of the John Butler Trio.

On hearing the news, Cave said: “My first political act will be to introduce legislation forcing all Australians to lower their expectations.”

What other Australian musicians would you like to see as Prime Minister?
