It’s enough to make you feel all patriotic: in this new video of a gig from late 2012, rising Australian singer/songwriter Courtney Barnett works her way through bona fide Aussie classic Kick by INXS.
“I’ve never been as nervous as I am right now for any show I’ve ever done,” Barnett announces before launching into Kick opener Guns In The Sky. She may not be experiencing the same dizzying international success that Michael Hutchence and co. did in the ’80s, but it’s been gratifying to see American and European audiences embrace such a distinctly Australian musician.
The set was performed at St Kilda record store Pure Pop Records as part of its “Summer Of Classic Albums” concert series and sees Courtney Barnett make her way through all yr Kick faves: Never Tear Us Apart, Need You Tonight, The Devil Inside, everything. Let’s hope as soon as it was finished someone handed her a barbecued snag and an ice cold tinnie.
