Courtney Barnett Has No Idea Who Any Of Her Fellow Grammy Nominees Are

Your girl Courtney Barnett is up for Best New Artist at the 2016 Grammys, and you’ll be pleased to know that she is still her same old self, even when faced with the possibility of being showered with awards glory.
During a recent interview with Billboard, notionally to build on the hype surrounding her nomination, Barnett was as laconic as ever, admitting she’s never paid any attention to the Grammys, and doesn’t know who anybody in her field even is.
Speaking about her nomination, she called it “far-fetched”, and said:

“I’m just not that interested in … You just live in your own little bubble, like, or I do anyway. So I don’t know anything about, like, electronic music or anything – you know? I don’t know much about anything really. I don’t really follow that much. I’ve found a couple of albums or artists I like, but really I just do my own thing — I’m not so concerned about what everyone else is doing and what the trend is.”
Barnett’s category includes James Bay, Sam HuntTori Kelly and Megan ‘All About That Bass’ Trainor, but Barnett is pretty blasé about the whole deal, and hasn’t heard of any of them.
“Yeah, I don’t know who they are,” she said of the competition. When asked if she plans to listen, she responded:

“I probably won’t. I listen to music when my friends recommend it to me, I don’t often just go out and buy a record because it was in a magazine or it was on a list or something. So, yeah, I probably won’t. I feel like there’s so much music in the world that I haven’t listened to yet that I want to listen to.”
You keep doing you, Courtney. We do call bullshit on her not having heard ‘All About That Bass’, though.
