Washington Scrapped An Entire Album To Keep Things Positive

Earlier today we caught up with the wonderful Megan Washington. Here are three interesting things she told us.

She’s working on something super top secret. New single Holy Moses is not the first single from a new album but the start of a secret project she describes as a “weird magpie’s nest”. She is sworn to secrecy but assures us all will be revealed soon. More info as it surfaces.

She made a mockumentary.I made a short film which is a mockumentary about the relationship between me and my producer, John Castle. But John is played by a man who looks like a 60 year old puppet. It’s quite abstract and it was a lot of fun…It isn’t funny. There’s a lot of pathos and pedestrian beauty. It’s quite ordinary but quite surreal at the same time”.

She scrapped an entire album to keep things positive: “I went through a pretty big breakup last year and I wrote an album and recorded it in December. And that was the whole album. It was twelve songs. It was all done. And you know, I think it was good. Then it got to February and I thought “I don’t want to fucking sing these sad sack breakup songs for another year. I don’t want to fucking do that. So then I started writing again…”

She elaborates: “I went through a really big break up. I got real sad. I wrote a whole bunch of songs that were like poor me, I’m so sad, I hate life, I hate you, how dare you break up with me, I still love you and so on and so forth. And I recorded all of those to document that feeling. Then, conceptually, I decided a few months later that I didn’t want to live that life. Because when you release an album you live the life of the record. So if you write a disco album you’re going to spend the next year at a disco every night because you have to play the fucking song. And I didn’t want to keep living and reliving and going through that pain and that heartache and all that bullshit so I just fucked it off and I wrote something else. And maybe those songs will turn up again at some stage but I can’t spend four years singing songs about the same boy – it’s just inefficient.”

Gotta love her honesty. Full interview to come soon.
