Tame Impala Take Out Rolling Stone Australia’s Album of the Year Award

Perth’s Tame Impala were given yet another chance to fire up the victory bong last night when their sophomore album Lonerism was honoured with Album of The Year at the fourth annual Rolling Stone Australia Awards. The album, released in October last year, has previously received a raft of accolades including the 2012 J Award and a top ten finish in Pitchfork’s coveted album of the year reckonings. Judged by a panel of 40 industry professionals, the Perth-based psych lords beat out fellow nominees including Sarah Blasko, Urthboy, Paul Kelly, Hilltop Hoods and Dirty Three.

The award ceremony was held at the Beach Road Hotel in Bondi where international guests included Vampire Weekend, Band of Horses and Crystal Castles. Single of the Year went to The Presets for their work on ‘Ghosts’ whilst Chet Faker won for Best Independent Release.
