Stone Temple Pilots Review

Stone Temple Pilots
Hordern Pavilion
March 20, 2011

It came as a less of a surprise than I imagined it would this past weekend, when I ran into my teenage self at the Stone Temple Pilot’s show at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney.

It took a moment for me to square the vision of myself with reality, but it was definitely me, aged fourteen.

“Having a good time?” I asked, jostling my way over to where my younger self was standing in the mosh pit.

“Yes! I’m seeing my freaking favourite band right now!” she proclaimed loudly while regarding me suspiciously. “Who are you?”

“I’m you in sixteen years,” I said, “I’m reviewing this show for a magazine. Don’t freak out.”

“You’re old,” she said, narrowing her eyes. “How old are you?”

“Twenty-nine.”

“What?”

“Nothing, I had something stuck in my throat.”

“So you write about music? For a job?”

“Sometimes!” I said, impressively.

“You don’t look like you know much about music. You’re wearing a KISS shirt.”

“One day you will understand,” I nodded sagely. “Also, don’t ever wear the band’s shirt to their show,” I pointed disapprovingly. “Pro tip.”

“That is so stupid. There is no way you are me.”

“Trust me, I am you. Look,” I pushed up my sleeve, “Here’s a gross scar I have on my elbow from when you came off your skateboard the other day.”

“Okay, this pot is really strong,” young me said, staring into the middle distance and rubbing the bandage on her elbow. “So… wait. I don’t do anything worthwhile with my life? I’m not an astrophysicist, or an architect?”
