Let’s dispense with the aca-scuse me’s and the aca-awesome’s right now, because we have some serious movie news to report. Hailee Steinfeld has joined the cast of Pitch Perfect 2. That’s right, the plucky little girl from True Grit is now the newest member of the Barden Bellas.
… OR NOT! No plot details have been released yet, so for all we know, Steinfeld might be playing a member of a rival college a cappella group, sent to take the Bellas down. There are so many possibilities I’m literally about to puke all over the place with excitement. May 15, 2015 can not come fast enough.
Leads Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and Brittany Snow are all set to return, along with Lilly Okanakamura as soft-spoken Hana, who is hopefully still setting fires to feel joy. Elizabeth Banks is directing, so it would be very surprising if she and John Michael Higgins didn’t come back for another round of awkward sexual tension.
There is no word yet on Adam DeVine, but I need him to return pretty badly so that I can have more fodder for my Fat Amy and Bumper erotic fan fiction. Seriously you guys, I have one where they eat a burrito together, Lady & The Tramp-style, and then bone. You can read it if you want, but it’s pretty gross.
The original Pitch Perfect was a monster hit, made for $17 million and grossing somewhere north of $115 million worldwide. Add a further million copies of the soundtrack sold, and this sequel feels like a no-brainer. With any luck, we’ll get at least one more decent Pitch Perfect film before they drive the whole thing into straight to DVD hell.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got the magic in me, and I need to let it out very, very urgently.
