PAUL BANKS SCRUBS UP

With the Australian leg of the Interpol tour looming like the bubonic plague, it’s reassuring to know that Paul Banks is kicking back, relaxing and just chilling with his homies…front row at New York fashion week.

We all knew that Carlos D was a bit of a fashionista – anybody who wears a gun holster as an accessory is both criminally melodramatic AND ostentatious save perhaps cowboys and policeman, but I digress. Honestly is this the same Paul Banks that toured Australia for Splendour In The Grass way back in 2005? Note the Argyle sweater vest, the washed out lavender button up, the designer frames, the freaking middle part! What’s going on? Is the fur on his lap concealing an engorged fashion boner from watching the runway show?

There was always something a little subversive in their music that translated so well in their attire and band image as a whole – like an enigmatic stranger who would befriend you, then stab you in the back once you got back to their apartment. Now he just looks like a GAP add. But really, who cares when you can sit next to Helena Christiansen and whisper sweet nothings into her ear like ‘Damn that bitch from Grey’s Anatomy is looking skinny. I feel like writing a song about cashmere, what do you think?’

Dress sense aside (we’re really not THAT shallow) Interpol are touring their new album ‘Our Love To Admire’ and hit our fair shores very very soon. Dates are as follows:

17 Feb 2008 Metro City Perth

19 Feb 2008 Convention Centre Brisbane

21 Feb 2008 Hordern Pavilion Sydney

25 Feb 2008 Festival Hall Melbourne

26 Feb 2008 Thebarton Theatre Adelaide
