Michael Hutchence Biopic In The Works

Exactly fifteen years after his death, today comes the announcement that the life and times of INXS frontman Michael Hutchence will be turned into a full-length feature film set to match the likes of Ray and Walk the Line. Focusing on his childhood, his rise to fame with INXS, his relationship with Kylie Minogue, and his eventual suicide in 1997, the film will bring to life the book Just A Man: The Real Michael Hutchence, written by Hutchence’s mother and sister in 2000.

Robert Galinsky, an Australian film writer and producer, is set to take the reigns for the movie, which has the working title Two Worlds Colliding. His previous work includes Prey starring Natalie Bassingthwaite (who knew right!?) which, just quietly, has a lovely 2.3/10 rating on IMDB. “I’m hugely excited,” Galinsky said. “This is a project I’ve been wanting to write for over a decade.”

The film will stray from the sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll mirage we might have expected, with Galinsky hoping to depict a “heartfelt man, who was not only one of the most charismatic singers of our time, but also, a father, a brother, and a son.”

Casting for Two Worlds Colliding will take place early next year with an unnamed A-list British actor rumoured to be interested in playing Hutchence. Galinsky also plans to meet with the members of INXS to gain their blessing for the movie.
