Lizzo’s ‘Truth Hurts’ Just Became The Longest-Running #1 By A Solo Female Rapper

Lizzo

Lizzo‘s “Truth Hurts” has held on to the No. 1 spot on Billboard Top 100 for the fourth week in a row, making it the longest-running No. 1 single by a solo female rapper OF ALL TIME.

She did that. She did that.

The record was previously held by Cardi B, whose “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)” held the throne for three weeks in October 2017.

I know Lizzo is on top of the world right but but it’s just so insane to think that she nearly quit the music business in 2017 after the release of the tune.

“The day I released ‘Truth Hurts’ was probably one of the darkest days I’ve had in my career,” she told People a little while ago. “I remember thinking, ‘If I quit music now, nobody would notice. This is my best song ever, and nobody cares.”

But thank fuck for her producer, publicist, and family who urged her to keep going because “this is the darkest before the dawn.”

Lizzo has since celebrated the y’uge achievement on her socials, dedicating it to nine-year-old Lizzo.

“Truth hurts is officially the longest solo female rap #1 in history,” she wrote. “I fell in love with music when I was 9 years old… I know it’s cliché but music was literally my boyfriend.

“I had no idea our love affair would take me this far. If this Lizzo only knew all that she would accomplish when she picked up that flute, or wrote songs in her room, or forced her friends to make girlbands… it’s just so humbling to know it was all worth it.

Don’t run away from what your heart wants. Follow that bitch to your destiny.

As Jonathan Van Ness commented: “Yessssss much crying rnnnnn”.

Let’s not forget, the lady herself, Lizzo, is bringing her fine, chart-topping self to Australia next year as part of the FOMO Festival tour, so we can see her belt out “Truth Hurts” in the actual flesh. Can’t bloody wait.
