Jack River’s Hosting A Masterclass To Fine Tune Your Obsession With Music

As someone who can barely strum a guitar without it bursting into flames, a music masterclass may not be able to fix my obvious shortcomings, but that’s not to say it isn’t worth a shot. If you truly love everything music-related and remain hellbent on breaking into the industry, it’s time to step it up a notch.

Triple j fave Jack River (or Holly Rankin to her childhood chums) is throwing a not-so-impromptu talk and Q&A sponsored by RACV, where attendees will be able to pick her brain on the music scene, finding and/or maintaining your burning passion for bangin’ tunes and anything in between (to an extent, we don’t want to scare her off with wildly inappropriate questions about the legality of destroying your ex’s clothes and whatnot. Let’s keep it music related, team).

At the age of 25, the Fool’s Gold singer has already had a song chart on the Hottest 100, and I mean, as a 26-year-old who has just figured out that eggs aren’t dairy, that’s a serious accomplishment. It would be a disservice not to point out that this feat was also achieved before Rankin had even released a full-length album (her debut LP, Sugar Mountain, is set to drop on the 22nd of June. Mark your calendars). Rankin is also the brains behind Grow Your Own Festival, set in the Forster-native’s hometown, which showcases local talent in every sense of the word.

If you thought one festival was already enough of a responsibility, Rankin continues to curate the Electric Lady festival series, an ongoing platform for the talented gals of the music world to show off their chops. They’ve even nabbed a stage at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. No biggy.

Just do yourselves a favour and make sure you take notes on the night as it may very well change your life. *Cue dramatic music*

Going down on Wednesday the 9th of May at a Melbourne uni, RACV‘s night of tune-spiration will encourage like-minded musicians to mingle and share their own experiences, all the while gazing admiringly at Rankin as she undoubtedly drops some serious tricks of the trade.
